Unfiltered and Craft Beer

Unfiltered beer retains some yeast and proteins, giving it a cloudy look and richer taste. It’s valued for its “live” quality and aromatic complexity. Craft beer is a world of its own. Small breweries experiment with ingredients—adding honey, berries, spices, and herbs—and create unique styles and limited editions. In Eastern Europe, cities like Lviv and Kyiv have thriving craft beer scenes, with bars and festivals attracting beer lovers.

Key Ingredients and Their Role

Every beer starts with four core ingredients: water, malt, hops, and yeast. Water defines softness and mineral balance; malt provides color, sweetness, and body; hops add bitterness and aroma; and yeast transforms wort into an alcoholic beverage. Additional ingredients bring variety: honey softens the taste, berries add tartness, herbs and spices enhance complexity. Local products often give beer a distinctive regional flavor.

Tips and Warnings

When choosing beer, consider style, strength, and food pairing. Lagers are great for hot days, ales and dark beers pair well with meat and cheese, and wheat or fruity beers complement snacks.
